Elder Brinton Johnson's Mission Site
One year in Korea
Date: August 20, 2008Area: Boon Dang (분당)
Companion: Elder Choi Jeong Hun
What!? No it doesnt feel like ive been in Korea for an entire year. That's just crazy.
Well my companion is awesome! But president called a few days ago and on Monday he will no longer be my companion but is going to the office to be one of the new office elders. He's leaving early to get training. So I'll be in a threesome with the other two elders in the house until the transfer is over...about a week and a half. I was pretty bummed when I found out. He's definitely one of my best companions yet.
So tomorrow is the Elder Bednar conference and we'll be going to the same place as last time with Elder scott. But this time we'll be all together with the Seoul mission. That'll be cool because I was in the MTC with so many missionaries there(about 20) ...and it was exactly a year ago that we left. There is a meeting on Sunday with the members too...we should be going to that as well.
Wow Shyla....ya mom, I'd say the birthday gift you wanna get her is the right idea. She's got a worse sense of direction than I thought. Almost everyone has a GPS in Korea...but that's just cuz it's so crazy here.
Sorry I haven't gotten the cd's yet. I should get 'em next week.
Definitely find out where Brother Tonga is...I know of two Army bases in our mission...one close to us that I don't know the name of and the other one is camp humphreys down in Pyoung Taek. I'm not really sure if he remembers who I am...I can only remember meeting him like twice, but that would be cool anyways.
Yes you can get peanut butter in korea...and yes the cookies were delicious..mom, you'd be surprised how much I learned from watching you cook. I'm pretty good!
So I was at a members house the other day and he's a photographer...so I was talking you up a bunch and remembered you had a website...that was the first time I'd seen it since leaving though....it's really really really good. wow mom...your'e way good. He was way impressed too.
I saw some pictures of Steph's wedding too....that's kinda weird....not in a bad way...just weird to see your friends and cousins pictures from their weddings...especially when you can't be there.
So this next part you may not want to add in the email you post...but its the experience that I can't stop thinking about...not too long, but kinda sad..
As we were leaving the house yesterday, we got on the bus to go to the subway station and as we went along we passed another bus that was stopped in the middle of the intersection and all the people were out on the sidewalk looking underneath the bus. So as we passed I looked under and there were these two little feet sticking out and nothing was moving...my heart felt like it stopped..
for the next ten minutes I battled myself in my head over whether or not we should go back to see if we could help. I eventually decided not too and the thought hasnt left my mind since.
I thought about the family...what they must be feeling. then I thought about if it were one of you guys...or my kids.. It's honestly really been bothering me since yesterday.
So we're going to the Korean Folk Village today. It's basically the most cultural thing you can do in Korea. should be pretty cool.
I love you guys, stay safe,
Brinton
