Date: August 28, 2008Area: Boon Dang (분당)
Companion: Currently with two other elders for a week and a half
Hello!
Wow, Elder Bednars conference was incredible and absolutely nothing I expected it to be. It was unlike any other talk I'd ever heard. He got up there and well....didn't really do a whole lot of talking at first.
He started out by asking one question. And then telling us that during the entire conference, he didn't want us to write down anything he said, but to pay attention to the Spirit.

"How can we, an Apostle, two Mission Presidents, the Area President, the Area Seventy, and our wives, help you?"
And so missionaries started asking questions. He did this for 3 hours... and simply answered questions not by giving us answers but by asking more and more questions and teaching "truth as found in the scriptures and from the Holy Prophets."
Then, he asked us what we learned from how he was teaching. He would point out how we learned some things that weren't even mentioned...and that's because the Spirit was teaching us.
Personally, I didn't have the opportunity to ask a specific question out loud, but I can tell you that every single question that I had recieved an absolute and specific answer. As Elder Bednar called it, it was truly "not a talk, but a revelatory experience." My life once again changed.

We also got to go to the member session, in the new stake center, (which I'm not sure he was there when it was dedicated but whatever) But it is officially the largest building in Asia for the church and WOW it's really really really really big.
Haha! I got to see a lot of people from old areas and from the base and stuff....but guess who else I saw...yup. Brother Tonga was there, we met and I got his phone number. It was definitely a surprise to see him.

So ya, losing my companion this last week before the transfer was even over was a pretty big bummer. And to be honest being in a threesome isn't all that great either.. oh well, I'll survive. Up at the office...he basically is one of the elders that holds the mission together. Translating, visas, etc. Hes pretty busy. No it's not an AP.
The folk village was pretty cool. To be honest it wasn't all that exciting, maybe cuz we live in Korea and speak korean and know about a lot of the culture. But it was still cool. You and dad would probably like it to be quite honest. The girls might have been bored if they went.
Yes, it's okay for you to be coming to pick me up. A lot of elder's families do. The date sounds great...you could probably go hang out with the Burtons and stuff. I definitely know a lot of people that really really want to meet you guys so don't plan on doing too much tourist stuff after you pick me up. It's honestly not why I'm here so I don't really want to leave with it being the last thing I do. That's a ways away though.
Today we're going to the largest market in Korea. It's right next to our area. I'll probably end up eating some more dog, maybe some live octopus, some bugs, and other interesting things. Disclaimer, that isn't what koreans eat at all...it's not really part of their culture anymore. So don't look at koreans the wrong way.
YEAH DADS GETTING A MOTORCYCLE!! (not anytime soon) now it'll be easier to convince mom to let me get one....
Well this is pretty long. so I'll stop here.
I love you guys,
Brinton
p.s. Mom, i used my credit card to go to the clinic this last week. I got a really bad ingrown toenail and it was getting hard to walk. so i had to go get some antibiotics. but I also got a priesthood blessing, (and that was free) and now I'm feeling better.
