Chuseok - Korean Thanksgiving!

Date: September 18, 2008
Area: Kae San
Companion: Elder Jensen

Hey there,

This week was quiet here too...last weekend was Chuseok, and if you remember from last year thats basically the korean thanksgiving...aka, the biggest of two big holidays in korea. Which means that basically everything was closed for 4-5 days and there was no one on the streets and no one was able to meet. So that always puts a damper on the work.

Elder Jensen is awesome, definitely one of my best companions. Hes way good at the guitar. Hes the youngest of 5 and a twin. His twin is serving in Hungary. Tell the Swainstons hes in the Preston 5th ward. His dad is Craig Jensen. His brothers name is Matthew and has blonde hair and works at Kings. He knows exactly where the swainstons live and knows who cody is. His name is Kevin and his twins name is Ryan.

Hes been in the area for two transfers. The ward is amazing. We have such awesome members. They all love us and love missionary work. Last weekend we went to the ward mission leaders house with the bishop and a few other members to have dinner for Chuseok.  It was way good. She cooked american style baby back ribs and sphagetti along with some amazing korean food as well.

We have an investigator named Park Ji Young (28 year old girl) who might be getting a baptismal date soon. shes way cool and a lot of fun to be around. And she loves the gospel. She actually started out as a referral i guess from a sister missionary in seoul who happened to be in the MTC with me...thats kinda cool. the sisters here would be teaching her but as of right now there are no sisters in incheon until november.

Other than that the only other really cool investigator is Shin Sang Hee...hes probably the most eccentric, hilarious, wanna-be japanese korean that ive ever met....we're meeting him in a couple hours. He wants to be a Chef and has gone to culinary schools in Italy, Japan and Korea...he LOVES italian food but even more, italian girls and says he wants to marry one. he was pretty jealous when he saw maria. haha.

so Kae San is about 20 minutes north of Man su, no its not the same ward. Theres about 40-50 members and they are the best.

Being a district leader isnt much different from not being one so far. usually i take the stats on sundays, and am part of the "chain of command" to the mission prez. i guess you could call it. I conduct district meeting every week, but we havent had district meeting yet because zone conference was yesterday. so ill let you know what thats like next week.

Other than that...if you think gas prices are bad in the US...ive heard that its the equivalent of about 8 bucks here in korea....glad im not driving. id be even more poor than i am now.

p.s. mom, i used my credit card last week because we ran out of money and we were starving...id call it an emergency. i love you!

I think thats about it for my week. nothing too exciting. hope you all have a good week. it seems that they go by faster and faster. ill be sending some more pictures soon. ive got some good ones.

Love ya,

Brinton

p.s. i cant ever print my letters out....no printer.
