Work in Quelimane

Date: August 22, 2011
Area: Quelimane, Mozambique
Companion: Derrickson

Dear family.

After the internet crashed, I flipped out (but only in my mind). So that is what happened.

Quelimane is a very interesting place. Lots of bikes and people everywhere. We are doing tons of contacts and I'm learning how best to share the gospel. The best way is just by being the gospel. We are doing lots of walking and trying to figure out how to effectively contact the right kinds of people. I just wish the internet worked!

Well this week was like nothing I have experienced before. I have hardly done any contacting my whole mission and so I'm trying to figure out how to do it best and how to do it smart. It's a great challenge and I only wish I would have started this a little earlier. I'm getting a good idea though. So far what has worked out best is just to be the kind of person you want to attract. Elder Derrickson and I had a great planning session where we talked about what we wanted in a perfect "golden" contact. We discussed attributes like curiosity, sincerity, proactive nature, persistence, open and honest, etc. and we decided to work on those attributes ourselves and if we do, the right people will come to us. After all, light cleaves unto light and intelligence to intelligence. That's my logic there.

While contacting is difficult and a new experience for me at least here in Quelimane, teaching is at the low end. We taught 1 lesson this week. Ha. So not a lot is being done as far as "formal lessons" are concerned but we are still getting things done. Elder Derrickson is speaking very very well. Here is quite farther along the path than I was in my first transfer. He has subjunctive down pretty well and even though he doesn't always use it correctly he always knows when to use it. He is a great companion and a smart missionary. The MTC has become what I wanted it to be. Josh will have a great experience.

What's more, is that yesterday was the city day and so work was slow but we had an all-time record on sunday so that was the bright side. What no one told us was that the stores were all going to be closed today so... I can't buy food and I don't have any food. So... Pray that I make it through today. haha. Just a bunch of disappointments but am I gonna let that get me down? ok maybe a little... NOT! Just smile! Anyways, love you all and have a great week keeping the commandments and stuff.

Com Amor para Sempre!
