Reading Railroad

 hey padres.

Things are going pretty swell down here in the south.  We're not doing so much clean up service anymore, but we are definitely still fully engaged in other service . . . towards our God.

The Readings are doing really well.  We've been thinking about them and praying for them and fasting for them so much lately, and they're really coming along.  I love that family so much, and everytime we leave the kids ask us when we're coming back again.  Two of the boys, Sebastian and Fabian, remind me so much of Jason.  They're 10 and 9 respectively, which I know is a little bit younger than Jason, but that's still how I see him.

On Saturday we were teaching a lady in our ward, Sis Stamps, and the Spirit was really strong.  My testimony was strengthened on so many levels as we talked about the temple.  I received an impression to call Brother Reading after the lesson, which I did and he said we could come over.  It was already like 8 pm.  We went over and talked about baptism again and showed the kids how they really are ready for this.  It was all going well, and then finally Bro Reading brought out his doubt.  He's had a lot of unanswered questions regarding early Church history.  His question is more or less whether or not the Church has fallen back into apostasy.

I left him with two invitations on things to do and think about for homework as we left.  One was to pray to find out if Pres. Monson is truly a prophet today, and the other was to consider his options on what to do.  He could decide to join some other apostate church, or just sit down and not go to church at all, and run the risk of damning himself from all progression for being wrong.

I believe this helped him to see where his real doubt was.  It wasn't over the practice of polygamy or when blacks received the priesthood, but it was really if Pres Monson is who he claims to be.  If he truly is, then he must come back to church having the security that he's doing what's right.  Then, he can still try to overcome that little doubt.

I don't know if that all makes sense, but hopefully it does.

So that's what's going on.  The weather's cooled down a little bit at times, but pretty much it's still summer here.  In the 90's still, way hot.

For maybe a week after Ike the weather cooled for a bit, but now it's back.  At least I'm in a sweet mini-van.

I've been in Katy for a long time, it's true, but I haven't been in the same "area," or ward, the whole time.  I was in the Spanish ward for about 3 months, and now the English going on 4 months.  But it is the same geographic location, so I know these streets extremely well.

I hope you have a great week.

con amor,
Elder Ah Sue
