Living a Life of Devotion
Date: July 10, 2008Area: Geum Cheon
Companion: Elder Meier
Hey family~
It’s already another preparation day! Time passes so much faster than I ever anticipated! I’ve only been out for just over 7 months in Korea… it feels like I got here yesterday! The language is still hard but I’m progressing. I love talking to people on the street. I can now talk to people and reject their compliments about my Korean and tell them that I am just pretending to be good. It’s really entertaining.
Today was temple day for our zone. It was a really good day. The last couple times to the temple we’ve made it into the Korean session, but this time I forgot my recommend so we had to wait for the Temple President, President Jun, to call President Burton and get the confirmation. That was embarrassing… until another Korean sister walked in and said that she had forgotten to bring hers too. So we sat there together and waited for the confirmation calls to come. I didn’t feel so lame after that. I wasn’t alone! And that’s how it is in this life! We are never alone; our Heavenly Father loves each of us and walks with us every step of the way.
Elder Meier and I were able to participate in Proxy Baptisms with a recent convert, Brother Lim, who E. Meier baptized while serving in Incheon, who got his temple recommend just a little while ago. Now that is a different experience with it being in Korean. Elder Meier baptized Brother Lim, then I baptized E. Meier, then we switched. I’m a little bit heavier than my companion and Brother Lim combined so E. Meier had a little bit of trouble it seemed; however, it was still an amazing experience. I wish everyone could engage in the temple work in Korea! There’s so much to get done, and temple work is so extremely important! To say the least, it was an unforgettable experience!
The weather… you would not believe how humid and sticky I get on the streets and even sitting in the house! You think the east coast is humid?! YA RIGHT! You would be shocked. I have had to buy a “sweat rag” to used throughout the day as I sweat profusely! The rag, along with my shirt, is soaking at the end of the day! No matter what I do and how hard I try to stay dry I look like I just jumped into a lake! It’s kinda gross. But the humidity hasn’t even started to build up yet. It’s only going to get worse. The month of August is said to be the worst out of the year for humidity. Then half way through September the weather cools down a little… so you’ll ocntinue to hear my sweat stories for a while!
With the weather being so hot, the candy-grams have been fun to eat… but all the candy melted! There isn’t a candy that didn’t melt, yes chocolate and non-chocolate candy (for lack of better vocabulary). But I did enjoy reading them! But I’m still curious as to what Jeff and Johanna are naming Baby Anikin! I was hoping I’d have a response today but I got nothing! Mom and dad were faithful and pulled through with mail but I didn’t get any else… not sure if everyone knows this but you are welcome to write me!!!!!!! I might not be able to write back as often as you want but I’ll write!
The work is going well in Geum Cheon. We are working with a family of 4 that you’ve heard about, along with the grandparents, so there are 6 people total. We were trying to meet them this last Tuesday but they couldn’t meet. They want to come out to church and we’re going to set up a baptismal date for 2008.7.20. So as we work with them we’re hoping to see success and 4-6 baptisms this transfer! We’re working hard to find new investigators but we’re not having much success. We had a lot of investigators but they all drop so fast due to them not keeping commitments… that’s a problem. But we will work harder now to get our investigators progressing toward baptism. Pray for them!
I got a new usb transmitter for my camera card to send pictures so I’ll continue sending them as long as they connect to the computer… you’re lucky! I have like 200 pictures I want to send home but the computer is too slow to put them on emails so that’s frustrating and disappointing but oh well!
I send my love to you all! Smile and always play hard! You’re very loved. Keep in touch please… I hope to hear from you all. I’ll see you in a couple years!
