Best Drama of the Year Oscar Awarded!

Date: July 31, 2011
Area: Cauayan City Branch 2 - Assistant to the President
Companion: Elder Katao

The Oscar for Best Drama of the year goes to? "The Four Hour Drive Back From Tuguegarou" with the leading role going to Elder Hale.

We bought a shake after arriving in Tuguegarou, and then I passed the car keys to Elder Goobie as we drove to find the Sister's apartment. While we were driving I told Elder Goobie I needed to pull over. I got out and tasted the mango/apple shake for the second time. I was hoping it was a one time thing, but no luck. It reoccurred the whole trip back to Cauayan.

We stopped at a random house to use the CR, and it the process I was being hit with some kind of a plant while people were telling the evil spirits to leave. We made a stop at one of the churches (President had a key). I felt horrible for President and Elder Katoa (my new companion) who had to deal with me all the way back to Cauayan.

Sister Carlos made a bed for me to sleep in when we got back. I was treated like royalty. 2 other missionaries had this 24 hour flu thing, but it has passed and here I am writing you an e-mail (should have been taking my Centrum).

Transfers went well, and my new companion, Elder Katao, is a Tongan, born in Texas, grew up and lived in St. George.

Mom and dad thank you so much. Thank you for sacrificing for this gospel. Thank you for everything you do for me. Thank you for your love and prayers. Thank you for taking me to Primary, where I learned to sing the song, "Families Can Be Together Forever." Here in the Philippines and they sing it with a slightly different style on the "families" and "heavenly."

I am grateful beyond measure for you two. President and Sister Carlos are called of God to preside over this mission at this time. I am so grateful to each of them. This is God's Church and Kingdom once again established on the earth. There is no greater cause than this. This is a gospel of joy, of peace of happiness, "glad tidings for the living and the dead."

I am grateful for a knowledge of a Savior. I know He lives and guides this church through a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson.

Have a great week!

--Elder Hale
