We Need Them All!Date: November 28, 2011
Area: Cauayan City Branch 2 - Assistant to the President
Companion: Elder Katao
I got a letter from church headquarters with 4 tickets to the upcoming Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. Soon after a letter came from church headquarters with a wanted poster and a picture of Heather underneath for impersonation (Joke Only).
That was about two years ago that we got up early Saturday morning, still dark, snow on the ground. Drove from Orem to AF. As we made that decent in elevation on State Street, you could see the temple, still lit up. That was the morning I went to the temple for the first time and then later that evening a trip to the MoTab. "I love to see the temple."
Brother Cochran said I'd miss it after 2 years. Those temple ordinances are, as President Monson says, worth any cost. John A. Widtsoe said this about the plan of salvation,"We accepted the plan of salvation in our pre-mortal lives, and since that plan is intended for all people, we became parties for the salvation of everyone under that plan." He goes on,"we agreed right then and there to be not only saviors for ourselves but saviors for the whole human family. The working out of the Father's plan became not merely the Father's work and the Savior's work, but also our work." From Preach My Gospel "There is no more compelling work than this, nor any which brings greater satisfaction."
It was the Primary program yesterday. The leaders had that promised satisfaction as the kids spoke and sang. They are engaged in this great work.
We got President Uy to print out a list of the members. The list was 23 pages and 15 households per page (page 23 had five names). The list has names of a few people who have moved out of the branch. There are over 600 members on record. We have around 100-120 members show up to church depending on the week and if it's raining or not. So we have visited several less-active members, some who had been sealed in the temple, but have since quit attending, and some who were baptized and quit coming soon after that.
You can almost guarantee there are two things not happening, daily prayer and consistent scripture study. We need these members and we need them here to stay, and it can't possibly be done without the Iron Rod. The children sang, "Search, Ponder and Pray, are the things that I must do."
We need these wonderful people having memories of driving in the freezing cold Victory Liner bus to Manila, with temple recommend in hand, claiming the blessings which the temple offers and leaving with the determination to see it through to the end. We need sister_____'s husband ordained an elder and worthy to take his family to the temple to be sealed for time and all eternity.
So it's to the rescue, "In behalf of lost sheep, and lost coins." In the end, like the Prodigal Son, it is their choice to come back or not, but we have the responsibility to "invite and help."
Jesus Christ lives. His gospel has been restored to the earth. The Lord is gathering The House of Israel. He is preparing the world for His return, and each of us has a role to play. Whether it is like John Row Moyle, the stone carver, or Sister Tumayo the Primary worker or our role as father, mother, priest, teacher, deacon's quorum secretary, or hometeacher.
Thomas S. Monson is God's living Prophet on the earth today. The Book of Mormon is God's Word.
Love you mom and dad, have a great week.
