Elder Johnathan Hale's Mission Site
Final Letter from "The Fields of Ilocano"....Date: December 12, 2011
Area: Cauayan City Branch 2 - Assistant to the President
Companion: Elder Katao
Went to the Gupitan today to get a haircut. I wish you could see it. I can't say it's the worst one I've ever had, but . . . hey, that's right, you will get to see it later this week, so I'll let you be the judges. Elder Cledera was just next to me. I asked him what he thought of the new haircut, and he laughed, and walked away.
I'll put the scissors in Steve's hands when I get back, even my first grade picture hair due will do just fine. First grade seems like yesterday, Orchard Elementary, Mrs. Heaps, authoring the instant classic novel, "The Leprechauns and the Evil Warlocks," as Jake Brickey did the illustrations. Now, "all my bags are packed, ready to go," soon to be "leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again."
In one of our last zone conferences President Carlos showed us a video of his brand new grandson Austin. Austin's mom was moving his mouth up and down as she sang in an Austin voice, "I hope, they call me a mission, when I have grown a foot or two. I hope by then I will be ready, to teach, and preach, and work as missionaries do." President Carlos then made the comment, "That was you not too long ago, and now here you are."
What a joy these last two years have been. I would highly recommend it to anyone, young or not so young. You can't give a crust without receiving a loaf.
I know this work is true. God lives and loves us. He sent His son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. Many plain and precious truths were restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon testifies of the Savior and invites us to come unto Him. Doing our best in accepting that invitation gives meaning to our lives here on earth. Thomas S. Monson is God's living Prophet here on earth today.
Love you mom and dad. See you soon. Until then, this is Elder Hale saying goodnight from "The fields of Ilocano."
