1 week and Elder Hale will be in major culture shock. Bring it on!!!
I just got back from the Temple. As you all know the Provo Temple sits up on a hill somewaht and overlooks the Provo/Orem area. I gazed out over the valley and tons of memories came to mind.  I thought of all primary and sunday school teachers I've had. The Priesthood leaders, friends, family and the many many examples of people who justare good people going about their day to day lives. I could see LaVell Edwards Stadium, tons of memories.  I could see the bell tower by there the Marriot Center where more memories came (Luckily no memories of a 2 point loss to New Mexico).  As I looked out over the valley I thought of how blessed I am. I will be taking a bit of you all with me to the Philippines. Thank you all so much for being worthy examples to follow. I then looked back at the Temple and this scripture came to mind, "Lay not up for yourself treasures on Earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and theives break through and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven."  This life is short, every person on this Earth will one day die.  But death is not the end of life.  Life is everlasting. As President Monson said, "The struggle we all face on Earth is to determine between things which are important, and which are not... sometimes we get so caught up in the thick and thin of things. "  People are important. Because life is everlasting, this makes the salvation of a human soul so important.  There is life after this. We will be blessed for obedience in this life, but the big bulk of our blessings will be enjoyed in the next life.
Elder Bateman is just down the hall from me. Dad, I want to ask you to do something. Write him. Dear Elder is quick and easy. He has 6 weeks left here, flood him with mail. He is a big BYU fan and would love to hear about sports, words of advice and encouragement and I'm sure would love packages w/food one time (just a suggestion, he is a big kid).  I am sure it would really mean a lot to him, and make his stay here at the MTC much more enjoyable.  Is his mom a member? Thanks!
Well my time is about up.  All our district flys to LA on the same flight, then it's just us Cauayaners the rest of the journey. Hahaha. I dont have a clue what I'm getting myself into. Yesterday's fireside went great.  the speaker "Gave it to us staraight" no sugar coating.  He talked about the biggest struggle we have is that we are '19 year old boys."  He talked about some of the stupid things some missionaries have done and said it's because they are 19 year old boys.  He said now is the time to follow the white hand book to a tee and become "Servants of God." Very great talk.
I love you all, and I'm ready to go!- Elder Hale.
