Hello my Mother and Father! Also the other posterity or relatives or friends or non-friends/future friends of the two aforementioned which join me here on this earth! Aka my Family!
I love you guys! And I love getting to talk to you guys every week! You already know this – but it´s always the highlight of my week!! I love reading what you guys write each week too! David and Leah, thanks so much for writing so often, I LOVE it. Dude David, I wanna watch that movie with you SO bad. I always tell people about that movie- everyone here has seen it, and they´re always like, “How do you know about that movie??” And I´m always like, “My awesome brother! I haven´t seen it yet, but I´m watching it with him when I get back.” Haha.
I actually bet some parts up here in the north are really similar to how it is in Rio. And one of my really good friends here- Elder Pedrosa is from Rio. He´s coming to America in a couple years and wants to meet you guys so bad! Leah- I gave him a picture of you today, haha. :) Also, yes- that one text you got in portuguese said, “You are beautiful!” Erggg...
Anyway, you guys sound so good!! I love hearing everything! Dad, I hope your birthday was the best ever! What did you get to do?? Do you feel older? Haha, think you could out-run me? I think NOT. We´ll have to see. I hope it was the best ever! I pray for you guys every day!!
Anyway, my week was awesome, crazy, fun, and FAST! I don´t even know what happens, and then it´s P-day it seems like! I don´t even know where to start! (someone should count how many times I say that throughout the span of my mission). I spent a lot of time in Belém at the office, and the Doctor, doing more things with my dang stomach. It was so fun though, we went back to this place called Porto Dias- That´s where I´m doing my tests now- and it´s really nice! Mom, I think they have a web site, maybe you could look it up!
Anyway, the day we went to do a follow up with the doctor, it was a little busy in his little waiting room. By now, and since we talk to everyone, haha, we are great friends with the sectretary there, so when we came in we were like, “Hello again!”And everyone in the room instantly wanted to know who these tall guys in shirts and ties and big smiles were! As we were sitting there, Elder Clark decided to pull out this card game called “Super Trunfo”. It´s a brazilian game with all different types of categories that you battle against eachother, and the deck that Elder Clark has was super heroes!! There was a little 8 year old boy sitting next to us, and when he pulled out the cards, his attention on us (Along with the rest of the waiting room) was focused on us and super trunfo- super hero style! Haha, so, we asked him if he wanted to play with us, and he did that shy smile cling to his mom´s arm thing that kids do, and declined the marvelous offer. Anyway, we continued to play, and by the second game, there was no way that little boy was going to sit another one out, so he played with us! It was so much fun, and we had the attention of every person in that little waiting room!
After one game, we decided to use that attention, and began to tell everyone about the proclamation to the family, and the Book of Mormon. We also had copies of the proclamation for everyone, and after handing those out with pass along cards for everyone, it was back to super trunfo! We continued to play while the rest of the room read the amazing proclamation to the family, it was so cool! It was the most spiritual game of super trunfo in the world! Haha! I know that everyone left that doctor´s office happy that night!:)
The doctor I have now is good too. I think he actually cares about me, and that will really help, haha. This next Monday I have another endoscope at 9:00 in the morning, so HOPEFULLY I´ll be normal enough after to have enough time to actually do everything next P-Day! If I do get to write, I´m sure I´ll have some kind of story to go along with that after I wake up, for those of you who know how anesthesia seems to affect me! Haha.
Which reminds me! This week I did a division with a Brazilian Elder, and he came to my area for a day and one night! District leaders have to do one of these divisions every transfer. So anyway, it was up to me that day to be in charge, speak only Portuguese, teach, and take care of our area while Elder Clark was away! Wow, I had so much fun! I loved the feeling of only being able to speak Portuguese! My mind was so much more focused, and I just... loved it! Haha!
Oh my gosh, it was so funny too! So we were at the house studying, and I was super tired that morning, and... I fell asleep. Well when this happens I start dreaming. And when I wake up, I usually stay in my dreams for a few minutes, and say ridiculous things to people that try and talk to me. Well, this is exactly what happened! But for the first time in my life, in a different language!! Haha! He woke me up and was like, “Elder, it´s time to go.” and I was like, “Oh....oh yeah. Ok. So we´re trading clothes right?” And he was like, “....What?...” and I said, “ We´re trading clothes... for the service project.” And then I kind of just fell asleep again, and he said, “Elder, I think you´re dreaming.” And I said, “No... actually, we can´t wear these clothes, we have to change. We´re not wearing clothes.” HAHA! Ah man, and then I started to snap out of it, and had to try and explain that little twirk that I have! We both laughed so hard after!! It was the funniest thing ever!
But oh mom! (Sorry, my brain just races for what I need to say) I loved what you said about the “Believing Blood” That was so cool!!! But the day after I got that letter, I read all about it in Jesus the Christ!! It was awesome and I thought about you so much!! Have you read that, by the way?
Anyway... What else... Oh yeah! Ok, so yesterday was such a good Sunday! This week, they celebrated this thing called Círio. They parade this statue of Mary around Belem, and 2 million people were there yesterday, to touch the ropes that hang down from it. It is the craziest, most apostosised thing in the world, and EVERYONE goes!! Including all of our investigators!! Dang it! But it was ok, we got to have a relaxed, really nice Sunday! Anyway, we got there, and discovered that there was a new Principles of the Gospel teacher! Guess who? US! Haha, and when I say us, I mean Elder Clark! He did so good! I just wrote on the board, but it was so fun! Sacrament meeting yesterday was also so good. Here, the testimony meetings are always so cool. Everyone goes! Seriously, everyone. And their testimonies are just that- testimonies! They are short, simple, and so sweet. Except actually yesterday, this one lady told this story about a frog that lived in her house that she knows was sent by god, because she had a dream about it eating a snake that was about to bite her- it was SO weird! But man, I wish you guys could have been there yesterday, because... I got up and bore my testimony! I loved it so much. I had to wait a bit on the stand for my turn, and I sat there nervously looking out at the crowd of dark skinned beautiful Brazilians, who I knew only spoke Portuguese, and hoped they would be able to understand mine, and also that I would have something to say! Haha! Elder Clark went right before me, and I watched everyone´s faces. They were all smiling so big, and they were so happy that we were up there wanting to talk to them! I got up, and instantly felt calm, it felt so good. I introduced myself, told them that the last time I did this in a big chapel was in English, and then bore my testimony! It was so fun!! We actually had 1 investigator there, and I tried to direct it for her mostly. I loved doing it so much. Bearing your testimony makes it so much stronger, and I get to do it at least five times a day.
Gosh, I love it here!!! Anyway, I sat down, and I was sitting next to one of my friends- she´s 9 and her name is Bianca, and she came all by herself yesterday! We were writing notes to eachother in my notebook and drawing pictures, and I´m keeping it forever! Maybe I´ll send it home so you guys can have it!! But later that night, after church, we tried to go visit that Black guy George and his daughter, but when we got to their house, they weren´t home. We were kind of sad, and didn´t really have anything planned for that night, so we started to walk home. We walked past this BIG churh full of people yelling, and naturally, I wanted to go in and listen WAY bad!! So we stopped, and I told Elder Clark, and he was like, we can! We´ve got twenty minutes! And we both thought about it... and I got a feeling that we had someone to teach. I just didn´t know where! I later found out that Elder Clark had the same feeling! We decided we could do it some other day, and started to walk! Just walk! Haha! We were walking, and I saw this guy sitting down in front of his house, and we almost passed him, and I said, “Let´s go talk to this guy.” So we did! We went up to the guy, and introduced ourselves, and I said, “We´re here because we felt like we needed to talk to you!” And to shorten it- we taught him the first lesson out there on the side walk, and it was AWESOME. He was amazingly accepting, and told us he wants to get baptized!!! It was so sweet of him... He was so grateful that he wanted to give us his money for giving him the Book of Mormon. Elder Clark said, “You know what you can do for us? Make us juice!” Haha! He smiled so big, and 2 minutes later came out with some fresh juice, and had a nice little chat! It was so good! After we left, we were so happy! It felt so good to be instantly rewarded for following the spirit. We usually are, I just don´t think we instantly, or sometimes ever, see it. It was so cool to see why we did what we were prompted to do.
Anyway, my loved ones, I must go now!! Oh yeah! Here´s some fun stuff real quick!!!
One- you can buy monkeys in my area for 13 dollars.
Two- yesterday I met someone named Jeremy Nazereth Purpose Birth.
Three- The other day we walked down to the Amazon! It´s HUGE! I thought it was the ocean! We live like 10 minutes away!
Four- I love you guys so much!
I´m sorry though, I´ve got to go! Thank you SO SO SO much for everything you do for me. I hope someday each of you know how grateful I am for you. Until next week! I might be a little out of it, haha! Wish me luck! I pray for you always always. Love you!! Bye!!!
Love, Elder Lunt!
