Living the dream in Finland, powerful Spiritual witness, sleeping companions

I got the DVD for Dallan. I tried to watch it the same night I got it at a member's house for FHE, but it didn't work. I was a little frustrated. The next day we were at a house that just happened to have a DVD player. I noticed it as soon as they let us in. I said, "We're missionaries and part of a church that is worldwide. Even my brother is in Finland right now. Actually he just sent me a DVD. Do you want to watch it and see how missionaries are doing in Finland?" So we watched it and it worked. Thanks. And Dallan shouldn't complain about anything in his apartment. A "small" walk in closet? Two microwaves? Three couches? Did I see carpet? A washing machine? We won't even talk about that Outreach Center. If you ask us here, he's living the dream.

We found a great family this week. On Wednesday we went to follow up with a lady that we had met named Pamela. She was very ready for the gospel. She has a baby girl that’s' just a few months old. We summarized the restoration with her, and she accepted it. Very quiet and humble. She explained that she was from Kenya, but that she married a man from Uganda three years ago and now she lives here with him. We gave her a small pamphlet to read and left. We went back on Saturday and still her husband had not come back from driving his semi-truck to Kenya. We opened with a prayer asking for his safe arrival. She explained to us that her husband is a very stubborn man that never goes to church and that can barely speak English. I thought to myself, "She really is too ready for this gospel than to have a husband who is equally ready. It makes sense for him to be a stumbling block right now. Let's just have faith that the Lord will prepare a way for her." As we began to review everything that she had actually read, her husband came home. My companion jumped up with a smile and with a very serious and confident voice said, "We're so happy to see you. Will you join us?" He did.

We began from the beginning with the restoration. He stopped us after we taught about the great apostasy and explained in pretty good English why he didn't go to church. When he was young he came home from school one day with some friends who he was observing Ash Wednesday with. While standing there with a cross drawn from ash on his forehead, his Uncle asked, "Can you show me where God is?" He and his brothers couldn't answer, so his Uncle beat all of them with a stick. Since then, he never practiced any religion up to this point in his life. Then recently in this past month when he was in Mombasa, Kenya he was invited by some people to go to a church. The past three weeks he was visiting an LDS church in Kenya. He then said to us, "I don't know how God guides people, but he has guided us together today. I recognized you as soon as I walked in because of your name tags." Both Douglas and Pamela expressed their strong desire that day to become members of this church. So let's pray that they will have the faith to fully act upon the spiritual witness that they've felt.

Another sleeping companion story. He fell right sleep, with the same investigator even. I continued teaching. I was speaking about Keeping the Sabbath day Holy and the importance of the sacrament. Right in the middle of my explanation of the sacrament Elder Musasizi quietly wakes up and says, "I know what my brother has taught is true. I know that if we keep the Sabbath Day Holy we will be blessed." He almost continued into whatever it was that he thought was next in the lesson, but I gently regained control and went back to the sacrament. It was close. At least I can say that the Spirit never left the lesson. Now I just ask him, "Did you behold any visions?"

Next week I'll e-mail you the things that I want you to send with Dad. I'll think of the things I want to give as gifts to some of my recent converts. Let me know what you want me to do for any plans you have for the homecoming, and I'll probably be cool with it. Have a great week.
