President and Sister Christensen

Date: July 09, 2007
Area: Entebbe
Companion: Elder Muia

On Monday Latigo asked if I would name his baby that's going to be born this month. I don't know if it's going to be a boy or a girl. I feel bad though, because now I'm leaving. Just part of the work I guess. It rained Sunday. I was late to church, but I was very surprised and happy to see many of the members there and even some of my investigators and one of my recent converts who was struggling to come on time for the sacrament. It was a nice last Sunday. I put one of the pictures of me riding the rhino on their bulletin (I'm very proud of it) and I wrote on it "Don't fear death with any degree of terror" quoting Alma 27:28. I think they'll like that one.

President Christensen is a good guy. He was in the Vietnam War and served in the Special Forces, A-Team. I guess that means he was a green beret. And I guess that means he's pretty hard core. You should have seen his shoes the day all the Elders went to meet him. They were shining! I really don't think I could ever get any pair of shoes to shine the way I saw his shining. But he doesn't seem too strict, yet... I did notice his over protective care of the sister missionaries. He made some comments about how very special they were in the mission and made sure that every one knew that they will always sit in the front in any meeting. He continued to talk about his Special Forces experience and compared it all to us being missionaries in Uganda. He talked about how very few make it into the Special Forces just like very few made it on their missions, especially in Uganda. He talked about how the army didn't always want guys to stay in the Special Forces forever, but they wanted them to go back into the other ranks and take their knowledge with them to better the entire army in general. Just how like we'll go home and become bishops, stake presidents, etc. He talked about how people in the Special Forces would specialize in certain fields and when they were paired with others, they were expected to "cross-train", just as we will as missionaries, for example, one with strong faith purposely being companions with one that has strict obedience. It was really a nice comparison. I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot like that.

His wife commented a lot on the Holy Land of where they just took a trip. She talked a lot about Paul and talked about how he was able to discern King Agrippa's spiritual emotions at the moment. They're both well qualified in my eyes. We then had a testimony meeting with EVERY elder.

I had my last baptism in Entebbe on Sunday. Gorret's mom. They walk to church. She's the one I hooked up with the food a few weeks ago. But their walk is about an hour and a half. Not short. They're sacrificing for sure. I have 3 min. left on my account. I wrote a lot in Dad's e-mail. So enjoy them together like you always do. Have a great week. Thanks for everything.
