Opinions, humility and changes for the better

One of my missionary leaders made a comment to me early last week. Basically he said it doesn't show dignity to wear a ring on your thumb. He was very serious. He kind of said that I could just wait and wear it there when I get home. I just smiled and said, "That's a good opinion. Thanks." I obviously pondered it the rest of the week. Really there's no hidden reason why I wear it there. It's just comfortable there for me. So at our zone conference on Friday I decided that if I'm going to openly go against my missionary leader I should at least get the consent of my Mission President. I asked him quickly off to the side, "Is it okay if I wear my CTR ring on my thumb?" Kind of laughing he sarcastically said, "No." I kind of felt good, but I thought to myself, just get a straight answer. So again I said, "So it's okay?" Then he seriously said, "No." A little confused I asked why. He said, "There's no Gospel reason, it just doesn't look professional. If you wear it on your thumb, then someone will want to wear it on their toe, and then their nose..." As lame as a reason as it I think it is, I won't be wearing the CTR ring anymore. The situation also humbled me a little to just listen to my "missionary leaders."

I still like our Mission President though. I like his wife a lot as well. She gives great talks. The mission continues to change little by little for the better. President Christensen really stressed companion equality. He's basically getting rid of "senior companions." That's been on my mind since day one! No where in our handbooks or Preach My Gospel does it ever talk about responsibilities of a "senior companion." They're all just fake "traditions of the Elders." (my opinion, sorry) Like who carries the keys, who reports at branch correlation, etc. If we're equal in the work, we take turns. And that's what President Christensen has told us to do. So I think that'll be a nice change.

Have a nice week.
