Work is moving, Zone meeting, Elders coming and going, picture perfect missionary work
Date: March 10, 2008
Area: Nsambya Companion: Elder Soko
The work is moving here in the Nsambya area. Last transfer was awesome, this transfer was terrible, and next transfer will be awesome again. Just the ups and downs. We have to find and teach, and then we baptize. Then we have to find and teach again. For some reason they usually don't happen at the same time.
Still excited about the trip. I'll let the office know about the plane ticket. I don't think they deny the ticket I want. I should be able to find out by next week.
I'll be sending some pictures. Sorry it took so long. I have the CD's made. I'll put them in the mail ASAP. I think this past couple transfers I just got bored with taking pictures. Everything is so normal anymore. I forget that I'm not going to be seeing these scenes in less than a year. So when you come, I'm sure you'll be able to have a very fresh photographers perspective. I'd be prepared with about 10G of memory if I were you...
I got an e-mail from Dallan. He sounds like he's enjoying his time in Finland. The biggest impression I get so far is that it's "Quiet" there. I was reading that about the Finn's, but I assumed it was just one of those myths. Apparently it's real. That's kind of funny. I was thinking about trying to learn some Finnish so me and Dallan can talk when he gets back. Other than that, he'll probably never speak the language again.
We had our zone meeting this week. Basically it's just a zone leaders follow up version of zone conference. President Christensen attended and just now he called and told us it was the best one he's ever attended. So I guess we did something good. Personally I think the Elders just liked that we arranged for an Italian restaurant to bring us pizza for lunch. They had to pay a little extra, but they were definitely happy. That kind of stuff is rare here in Uganda, but you know how I hook things up.
There are some Elders coming back from Ethiopia this week and some going. I'm not one of them. Camuso and Shenjere are coming and Stoddard and Batt are going. Batt's an assistant and his companion, Curran, is going home. That means we're going to have two brand new assistants. Camuso is one of them. And that's all I know about transfers. I'll find out the rest on Saturday. If I get transferred I won't be surprised, but if I stay I won't be surprised either. We'll see... I've never been good at predicting any of that stuff. But my companion Elder Soko is, and he says I'm going to Kololo to be with Ray.
We set four new baptismal dates yesterday. They are Ben (Keny's cousin), Ben's wife Betty, and their daughter Nancy. And also Keny's Nephew John who is 22. We gave them the same date as Keny's wife which is April 13. It was picture perfect missionary work. We taught them after church in the home of Keny Armstrong with his children who were just baptized at the beginning of February. So we'll have five more baptisms on April 13th that all came from contacting Keny late that one night on the dirt road in late November.
If you plan on sending toys, think about the circumstances. If you send a coloring book, I promise it will be thrown in the mud within three days. These kids are dirty! Send some matchbox cars, action figures, dolls. No matter what it's going to get filthy dirty. Anything that is round, they'll try to use it as a soccer ball.
Have a good week!
