Pot-hole paranoia, diarotting, training
Date: May 10, 2008

My week has been a bit hectic. Driving was exciting until I had to drive to Jinja. Just before we got into Mukono I hit a huge pot hole. The roads here are terrible. Anyways, the tire blew out and we had to pull over. Luckily, there were plenty of Ugandans there to volunteer their services to fix it for us. They didn't ask. They really didn't even make eye contact. They just grabbed things and started working. We assumed they were going to ask for money, which in my opinion would have been very worth it. But they didn't. They just put on the spare, we gave them "bongas", took a picture, and off we went. The rest of the trip I had what I like to call, "Pot-hole paranoia". It's not cool.
We drove back that night and then decided that going back and forth from Jinja everyday throughout the week was a bit too much. So we arranged to stay at the senior couple's house for the remainder of the week. The Huskinsons. (They were just assigned to go there so Elder Huskinson could become the branch president of Walkukuba and successfully combine the two branches back together). Well, just before we left to go back to Jinja Wednesday morning, I woke up vomiting and "diarotting." (The Ugandans action form of the word diarrhea). But we went anyways. Then I was up all that night back and forth from the toilet alternating which end the unwanted substance wanted to come out. That also was not cool. But I saw the hand of Lord in the fact that I had enough strength and energy to fulfill my assignment during the day.
In the end we were able to kick off our mission tour in the right direction with some great feedback from the Jinja district leaders and zone leaders. I feel like I get more inspiration for my trainings while I'm training thnn while I sit down at a desk and study for them. Elder Ray and I are still very united. He's a great Elder. It's weird to think that I've already been on my mission for about 20 months now. Time's flying... Tomorrow will be the last time you hear my voice until I come home. Talk to you soon.
