Happy Father's Day
Date: June 15, 2008
Area: Kololo Companion: Elder Ray
DAD,
It's been quite a busy week for us here. Elder Ray and I have been rushing to finalize some things in our book so that we could present it at the zone leader’s council. We did. It's been a bit stressful to say the least.
We have a new Elder here from Blackfoot Idaho. Elder Beard. He's a big guy. 6'3", 300lbs. I guess he used to do some heavy weight wrestling. Very prepared and sure of his calling. He seemed a little nervous when we met with him, but that's a good sign of humility. Elder Tebbs was just released from a zone leader to train him for his last transfer. Tebbs will be going home with Ray next month. But that's living the dream. Training in your last transfer. I'm a bit jealous. I still have no clue what will happen to me next transfer. But I'm not nervous about it either.
Mission President's daughter is in town. She'll be around for a few weeks. The awkward part is that she actually seems like the date-able type. But they'll be gone all next week for a little safari up to Murchison Falls. Except for tomorrow. Tomorrow's the big day. Mission wide activity at Lugogo field, soccer as usual, zone verse zone. Elder Ray and I have been waking up and jogging for a half an hour every morning up and down the hills of Naguru. I can't say we're in tip top shape, but I think we'll shine tomorrow. We got some matching Italian jerseys at Owino a few weeks ago. Pretty big time...
We ate at the mission home a total of five times this last week. Pretty big time... Maybe President is feeling generous with family in town or something. We've been stuck in some of the craziest traffic in the world. I'm talking about the stuff where you have to fold your side mirrors in or they'll get knocked off. Live and learn. We made a few wrong judgments in town trying to get from Mengo to Nsambya when taking the Ethiopia Elders to the airport. And then another time dropping the Jinja zone leaders off at the taxi park. It's not easy...
I got the DVDs! Pretty big time... They all work perfect. I'm trying to figure out who to distribute them to. I was pretty impressed with the music you came up with in Kelsi's DVD. I think in her last e-mail she mentioned that she owes you big time for that.
Well these past few years as a missionary, I can say I've been proud to have you as a father. The books, DVDs, packages, e-mails, etc. You always came through with whatever it is I needed, whether or not I actually realized what it was that I needed. Before I left, I had it in my mind that I wasn't going to need to depend on anybody. I was pretty sure I'd get through everything with what little faith I then had. But I'll never know if that's true, because you, Mom and the rest of the family have always been there. Never a blurry moment. Constant encouragement. Always willing to bend over backwards for my real needs. Thanks! Happy Father's Day.
