Making Progress

Date: November 17, 2008
Area: Burgess Falls, TN
Companion: Sis. Sprinkle

So this week has been good, we made our goal of 15 discussions with members exchanging with us, so that is really good. Hopefully this week we will see the same kind of blessings. (We didn't really have any time for finding this week, so we only have 2 new investigators...) We are praying hard and trying to be open to what the spirit wants us to do. Yesterday was stake conference so we weren't able to pump the ward up again and get them excited and thank them for all their help.

But our stake pres has counseled us to teach the members the lessons. I think that will be a good way to get them involved in missionary work and get them excited for what they know and how they can share bits of that with other and go over their family mission plan with them.

We got to go the adult session of conference because Beverly really wanted to go too, and Sis. Holiday spoke, and she was amazing. She is a teacher at MTSU and was full of energy. Afterwards I asked around to see what classses she taught and I was told  she teaches theater and story telling. She spoke Saturday night on teaching with discussion led by the spirit. Although she was not able to actually have us raise our hands and participate in that way, it was refreshing to hear someone practice exactly what they preach as they spoke. We were very involved in her talk. Sometimes I think people are not as self-confident or afraid to overstep some kind of cultural boundary if they are an animated speaker. She was definitely out of the norm of what I have heard in a long time, but very enjoyable and the spirit was definitely there.

The lady who is cooking Thanksgiving dinner for us is in a wheelchair, so that's a big meal to make in a regular size kitchen when a wheel chair puts you in an awkward position. But we'll help out any way we can and I'm sure it will be great.

I'm glad the primary enjoyed the letter and picture I sent, and I'm glad E. Cardon gave me a copy of Brittany's baptism. He's a solid missionary, always thinking of others.

We met a lady from France and her husband is from South Africa and we taught her the first and she said, "If the gospel is incomplete I want to know about it." It was really neat. We are ordering her a French Book of Mormon because even though she is a fluent English speaker, old English is hard for her so maybe....old...French... will be easier for her to understand.

I asked E. Cox (he's going home the same time as me) and he said the last day was August 12th ... (he's a little excited). So I don't know if I will get a choice of the two dates on each side of the 18-month mark or not. I don't think my last comps that went home got a choice, but i would LOVE to go  the alumni concert on June 30, if that was an option.

I loved your card, and it's so true, when we feel pressure and stress it's kinda self-focused and prideful, because we are assuming that we have to accomplish it by ourselves. I guess it all depends on the whys behind the stress.  But we will keep pressing forward, do our best, and see what God makes of it.

Love you more,

Tiff
